Featured Flower: Azaleas

Azaleas and Rhododendrons are shade loving flowers often associated with the Pacific Northwest and the damp forests of the Puget Sound.  However, these lovely blooming bushes are also native to areas of California, including SonomaCounty!

Right now is a perfect time to head up Hwy 1 toward Gualala to visit the Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve to hike among the tall trees and see the plants in their native surroundings.

However, if you prefer to stick closer to the 101, then check out the Sonoma Horticultural Nursery for a truly magnificent range of colorful blooms both for sale and in a hue soaked park-like setting.

The colors range from pale yellows, pinks and white to bold purples, reds and oranges.   They are so lush and beautiful that they remind you of the colors of a tropical paradise.
